Smart locks on rowhouse doors
Wi-Fi on these blocks is uneven, and the doors are old painted slabs a short walk from the showroom. You can hold the lock in the shop, then we install it on Columbia Road or a side street off 18th. There is no good place to leave a ladder in the sidewalk.
On this visit
Brick party walls on Columbia Road kill Wi-Fi at the lock even when the router sits ten feet away in the parlor. We test at the cylinder, not from the sofa. A keypad that needs the cloud for every turn is the wrong product here.
Frequent questions
The door is old. Will a smart lock fit?
Only if the thickness and bore match. Bring a photo of the edge to the shop before you buy one.
What if the battery dies?
You still have a key. We do not install a lock that leaves you with only an app.
