A smart lock chosen for the door, the network, and a key
Smart-lock installation checks thickness and bore, tests the network at the slab, changes default codes, and hands over a physical key. A Wi-Fi deadbolt, a keypad, and a battery pack are selected because they fit, not because the ad was convincing. A dead spot at the door, no key, a leftover default code, and a battery door blocked by trim are the install failures.
Book a general smart-lock install when you have not already committed to August, Level, Ultraloq, or Yale. Those brands have their own fit rules and their own pages. Bring the door thickness if you know it. If you do not, we measure.
Default codes, Wi-Fi dead spots, and a battery door you can open
Fit, a network test at the door, dead defaults, and a key are included. A new router is not. The fit guide and the backup key are non-negotiable. We do not finish while the factory code still works.
Brick row houses kill Wi-Fi at the front door even when the sofa has a strong signal. The test happens with the lock mounted. Condo corridors may have no resident network at the slab at all. The keypad and the key still have to work. We will not describe an app-only setup as complete.
Frequent questions
Where is the network test performed?
On the mounted lock, at that door. A phone on the kitchen counter joining the Wi-Fi does not tell you the deadbolt can see the same network through brick.
Why is a physical key part of a smart-lock job?
Batteries fail. The key is the entry method when the keypad is dark. We hand it to you. An install with no key is unfinished.
What is wrong with leaving the default code for a day?
Default codes are published with the model. A day is long enough. The code is changed before we consider the setup done, and the old one is shown to fail.
Which brand page should I use if I already bought the lock?
August, Level, Ultraloq, and Yale each have a service page because their fit limits differ. This page is the general case. Bring the unopened box either way so the bore is checked against that guide.
