Emtek sets installed without twisting a finished door
Emtek decorative hardware is aligned, not forced. Door thickness is confirmed. The spindle length is checked so the handleset and deadbolt do not bind. The finish is protected while the rose goes on. The latch is set to the strike after the trim is square. A spindle that is too long, a damaged finish, a misaligned rose, and a loose set screw are the scars of a rushed decorative install.
Order it when you have chosen Emtek and the door can take that prep. A builder-grade deadbolt is a different appointment. Have the finish name from the box, because 'brass' is not a single Emtek finish.
Spindle length, roses, and a finish that fingerprints will judge
The visit covers thickness, spindle, finish protection, and latch alignment. It does not cover refinishing a door we scratched because someone skipped the tape. Emtek's drilling guide and the door thickness are the limits. A smart upgrade in the same family is optional and quoted on its own.
High-gloss doors in newer Virginia and Maryland houses show every slipped screwdriver. DC historic doors may be thicker than the spindle that shipped in the box. We measure before the rose is tightened. The set screw is checked after the first dozen cycles, not assumed tight from the factory.

Why does spindle length matter more on a decorative set?
The escutcheon hides a bind until the latch feels heavy. A spindle that is a quarter inch too long pushes the through-bolts crooked. We cut or swap it to the thickness we measured.
How is the finish protected during the install?
Tape, a pad, and tools that are not dragged across the rose. A scratched finish is not polished out with a cloth. If it is damaged, we say so rather than oiling it and leaving.
Can the Emtek deadbolt share a key with an existing Schlage?
Only if the keyway was ordered that way. Decorative trim does not change the keyway. We do not file a key to make a mismatch feel close.
What does a loose set screw do in the first month?
The lever walks off the spindle. We seat it and we check it after the hardware has been used, because a screw that felt tight on the bench can back off.
