A safe walked in, leveled, and bolted only where the sheet allows

Safe installation checks the path in before the safe moves. Floors are protected. The safe is leveled. Lag bolts go in only if the manufacturer’s sheet says to bolt. Shims stay only if they do not become a rocker. Stairs that overload the carriers, a blocked swing, an unbolted light safe you thought was bolted, and a scratched floor are the outcomes of skipping the path check.

Book the install before the delivery truck is in the alley. Opening a locked safe is a different appointment. Tell us the floor, the stairs, and whether the sheet requires bolts. A gun-safe placement with a backup code is its own page if programming is the point.

Floor protection, swing clearance, and the stairs that should have stopped the job

Path, protection, level, and a bolt-down only when specified are included. Hauling a safe up a stair the structure cannot support is refused. Floor load and the bolt-down sheet are the authorities. We do not scratch a floor and call the blanket optional.

Narrow DC stair turns are the usual reason a safe that 'fit on paper' does not fit the house. We measure the turn. Slab houses elsewhere are kinder to the path and still need the swing checked so the door does not hit a water heater. If the sheet says not to bolt, we do not bolt, and the note says the safe is unbolted on purpose.

Frequent questions

Why measure the stair turn instead of trying the move?

Trying is how railings and people get hurt. If the turn is smaller than the safe, the safe stays on the truck or the plan changes. Optimism is not a measured diagonal.

When do you refuse to bolt the safe down?

When the sheet forbids it, when the floor should not be punctured, or when the bolts would miss structure. We then say, in writing on the receipt, that it is unbolted.

What does leveling change for a dial?

A safe that rocks will throw the dial off the feel you had in the showroom or the warehouse. Shims that hold, not a folded brochure under one corner, are the level.

Do you program the combination during an install?

Only if that lock's setup is part of the quoted install. A change of an existing number is the combination service. We do not leave the factory code because the move ran long.
