Schlage locks laid out from the drilling guide, not from an eyeball

Schlage installs follow the drilling guide. A B560 or B660 deadbolt, an ND-series cylindrical lock, and the strike are laid out from measured backset. The strike is reinforced. Keys are tested. An eyeballed bore, the wrong backset, mixed finishes, and short screws are the defects we are there to avoid. Grade marks are read so a residential deadbolt and a light commercial ND are not treated as the same object.

Book it for Schlage hardware on a door that can take that prep. A Kwikset SmartKey reset is the other brand's visit. Have the finish from the existing lever if we are adding a deadbolt beside it.

B560, B660, ND-series, and a strike reinforced into the frame

Layout, backset, a reinforced strike, and a key test are included. A full door replacement is not. Schlage's guide and the ANSI/BHMA grade of the product are the references. We do not mix a bright brass deadbolt with a satin lever unless you chose the contrast.

Paint-stacked row doors change the thickness the template assumes. The guide is checked against the measured door, including the paint. Commercial light-duty doors that take an ND-series get the strike the frame can hold, not a residential strike screwed into a hollow metal skin with half-inch screws.

Frequent questions

Why follow the drilling guide if the old hole is obvious?

The old hole may be the wrong backset. Measuring it takes a minute and saves a crossed bore. Eyeballing from the scar is how the latch drags.

What is different about reinforcing a strike on hollow metal?

The screws need the reinforcement in the frame, not a short screw in the face. A residential strike kit on a hollow-metal jamb feels tight and pulls out. We use the prep the frame actually has.

Can a B560 and an ND lever share one key?

Yes, if they are keyed alike on purpose and the keyways match. We test both. We do not assume the pack was keyed alike at the factory.

How are finishes kept from drifting?

The finish code is read before the box is opened on site. If the deadbolt and the lever disagree, we show you before either is committed to the door.
