Patio and slider locks matched to the panel that is actually there
Sliding-door work checks whether the panel can be lifted out. A foot lock, a pin lock, a multi-point, or a bar is chosen for that panel. Rollers are adjusted so the lock is not asked to fix a door that sags. A real strike is set. A secondary is added only if the primary is weak and the secondary does not block egress. Lift-out panels, bent strikes, missing screws, and a bar across a required exit are the mistakes.
Call it when a patio door lifts, rattles, or has a latch that misses. A pocket door in a hallway is not this hardware. Say whether anyone uses the slider as a bedroom exit.
Lift-out panels, rollers, and a bar that must not block a required exit
Lift check, strike, roller adjustment, and a secondary only when it is safe, are the job. New glass is not. The manufacturer's lock and the egress path are the limits. We do not screw a bar across a door that a bedroom needs as an exit and then call the room secure.
Condo sliders and basement walk-outs fail the lift test more often than the latch test. Anti-lift screws or a proper foot lock address that. A bent strike from a previous kick is replaced, not hammered flatter until the latch sort of catches. Rollers come before a bigger lock, because a sagging panel will miss a perfect strike.
Frequent questions
How do you test whether the panel lifts out?
With the door closed and the existing latch engaged, the panel is lifted. If it leaves the track, the latch was never the security. Anti-lift hardware is the conversation, not another surface bolt in the same weak spot.
When is a security bar the wrong product?
When the slider is a required exit from a sleeping room. A bar that a guest cannot operate in the dark is a trap. We say so and we pick a lock that still lets people out.
Why adjust rollers before replacing the latch?
A low panel misses the strike no matter how new the latch is. The rollers set the height. The latch is replaced if it is actually broken after the height is right.
What does a bent strike tell you?
The panel was forced or it has been hitting the strike for years. A new latch on a bent strike fails immediately. The strike is replaced or rebuilt.
