A turnover lock change for the person who has authority to order it

Turnover work changes cylinders and deadbolts so the previous keys stop working. Authority is confirmed before a screw is turned. Every opening on the written list is changed. Keys are counted. A receipt names what was changed. Unclear authority, a missed alley door, an old key that still works, and no key count are the failures that bring people back angry.

Schedule it when a lawful turnover, a court order, or a property handover says the locks must change. It is not a lockout of a person who is still in possession if you cannot show authority. Bring the paperwork and a list of doors, including alley, basement, garage, and storage.

Every listed opening, a key count, and a receipt

The price covers the cylinders or deadbolts on that list, the new keys, the count, and the receipt. It does not cover a hearing, a sheriff's time, or a door we were not told about. The paperwork is what authorizes the visit. We will not change a lock because a neighbor said the tenant left.

DC rentals often have a common-entry key the unit change must not touch. We ask which cylinders are the unit and which belong to the building. Maryland and Virginia turnovers add garage personnel doors that still accept the old key if they were left off the list. The list is the job.

Frequent questions

What paperwork is enough to change a rental's locks?

A court order, a written handover from the person who controls the property, or a management work order that names the unit. A text that says 'they moved out' is not enough on its own.

Why count the keys out loud?

So the number on the receipt matches the keys in the hand. A turnover without a count becomes an argument about who copied what. The count is part of finishing.

What if an alley door was not on the list?

It still takes the old key. We do not hunt for extra doors unless the walk-through is part of the order. Add it to the list before we leave if you want it changed.

Do you remove someone who is still inside?

No. If a person is in possession and the paperwork does not authorize the change, we stop. Lock work is not an eviction.
