Lockdown hardware that does not defeat the required exit
Lockdown hardware is chosen from the school's plan, not from a viral product. Classroom lockdown function, an indicator, the cylinder, and the egress trim are checked together. One-motion egress stays. Staff are shown how it works. Barricade devices that block the exit, an unlabeled function, staff without a key, and a dogged fire door are rejected.
This visit is for lockdown that still lets a room exit. Ordinary corridor closers and stops can be the broader school-door service. Bring the plan's sentence about lockdown. If there is no plan, the first product is not a gadget.
Indicators, staff keys, and barricade gadgets that trap people
Reading the plan, keeping one-motion egress, a short staff demonstration, and a refusal of devices that trap people are the service. Drilling a barricade plate into a labeled door is not. NFPA 101 and the adopted school code are the boundaries. We do not install a product that requires a second motion or a floor pin to get out.
Indicators help a passerby see whether the room locked. They do not replace a person with a key. We ask who holds keys before the hardware is praised. A fire door that was dogged so lockdown drills feel easier gets undogged and written up. The drill can change. The latch cannot stay retracted.

Why refuse a barricade device that a catalog calls classroom safety?
If it stops the door from opening in one motion, it can trap the room and block rescuers. The school's adopted code, not the catalog headline, decides. We will not mount it.
What does an indicator show, and what does it hide?
It shows the lock state from the corridor side if it is the right model. It does not show whether the closer latches or whether the exit is clear. Those are still looked at.
Who needs a key when the lockdown function is in place?
The staff the plan names. Hardware with no keyholder is a locked room nobody can manage after the drill. We do not leave a unique key in a drawer with no name.
Can a fire door stay dogged during the school day for lockdown speed?
No. Dogging defeats the latch the fire door exists to provide. Lockdown has to work with the latch, not instead of it.
