Many doors, an audit log, and two people who can administer it
Enterprise biometric work maps doors to schedules, tests a lockdown, exports an audit log, and trains two admins. A single admin account, unread logs, orphan doors, and clock drift are how a campus system lies. The reader, the controller panel, the log, and a backup credential are the pieces. A fingerprint on one lobby does not secure a loading door that was never enrolled.
This is for a multi-door layout with someone on staff who will actually read the log. It is too much machinery for a single condo unit. Bring the door list, the hours each door should follow, and the name of the second admin before the first one goes on vacation.
Schedules, lockdown, and clocks that have to agree
Included is the map, the lockdown test, a log export, and training for two people. Not included is writing your HR policy. UL 294 still applies to the gear. The organizational security policy applies to who may unlock a door from a desk.
A DC association or a Virginia campus often has one door that was added later and never joined the panel. We look for that orphan. Maryland medical suites add after-hours doors that must stay on a schedule even when the lobby reader is having a good day. Clocks are checked because a controller an hour off will lock people out at the wrong time.
Frequent questions
Why train two admins instead of the one person who asked for the system?
That person gets sick. A single login means a lost password becomes a building-wide lockout or a shared sticky note. Two trained people is the minimum we will leave behind.
What does a lockdown test show?
It shows which doors actually receive the command. A reader that beeps while the loading door stays on its old schedule is an orphan. The test is done before we call the job finished.
How often should someone open the audit log?
Often enough that a bad entry is still useful. We show the export once and we say, in the note, that an unread log is not security. We do not stay on retainer unless you ask.
What is clock drift in this system?
The panel's clock and the server's clock disagree, so a schedule opens an hour early or late. We set them together during commissioning and we show you where to see the time.
