A browser can run the doors only if the network plan is real
Cloud access control is a controller that phones home. The uplink is confirmed, offline behavior is chosen, a second admin is invited, and a remote unlock is tested from the parking lot rather than from a laptop sitting on the controller. A single internet path, no offline cache, a shared login, and unlabeled doors are how these systems fail on a Saturday.
Choose it when you want to add a contractor without driving to the building. Skip it if nobody will own the admin login. Bring the name of the second person and say what the door should do when the modem is dark.
Offline behavior, a second admin, and remote unlock
Commissioning includes the uplink check, the offline rule, the second invite, and one remote unlock. It does not include your internet bill or a promise that a cellular failover exists if you did not buy one. UL 294 applies to the hardware. The vendor's admin guide is the click-path we leave you able to repeat.
Georgetown and downtown DC suites lose internet when a landlord resets a switch. The door still has to have a written offline behavior, usually a local cache of recent credentials. We will not leave a door that unlocks for everyone the moment the cloud cannot be reached, unless you explicitly want that and it is not a required secure opening.
Frequent questions
What does the door do when the internet drops?
Whatever we set, and we make you watch it. Typical choices are 'keep the last valid cards' or 'stay locked and use the mechanical key.' An unplanned wide-open default is not acceptable on an office entry.
Why invite a second admin during the same visit?
The first login is the one that gets lost. A second named person can reset it. A shared password written for the whole staff is not a second admin.
How is a remote unlock tested honestly?
One person stands at the door. The other sends the command from a phone that is not joined to the controller's bench setup. If it only works on the installer's hotspot, it is not done.
Can every door in the account stay unlabeled?
Then nobody knows which icon unlocks the loading dock. We name them in the words painted on the doors, or we do not call the account finished.
