A phone credential with a card or a fob still in the drawer
Mobile credentials enroll a phone, test a revoke, and keep a backup card or fob. Reader range is checked at the door, not in the app screenshot. A dead phone battery, no backup, a shared login, and a reader mounted too far from where people actually stand are the outages that follow a phone-only rollout.
Use it when staff want the phone and you accept that phones die. A building that must open during a network or battery failure needs the backup in the same scope. Bring one phone that will actually be used, not the installer's phone.
Bluetooth or NFC range, dead phone batteries, and shared logins
Enrollment, a revoke test, a backup credential, and a range check are included. Your cellular plan is not. The vendor's mobile guide is the click path. We do not delete the backup card to make the system 'cleaner.'
Lobby readers buried in metal frames lose range. People end up pressing the phone to the glass and deciding the product is bad. We test the stance a visitor will really use. A shared app login for the whole staff is split into named users before we leave, or we say the job is not administrable.
Frequent questions
What is the backup if every phone is dead?
A card or a fob that was enrolled for that person, or a mechanical key where the door has one. A system with neither is a lockout the first time a battery hits zero.
How do you test range honestly?
At the door, with the phone in a pocket and in a hand, from the distance people will stand. A success on top of the reader's housing does not count as range.
Can two employees share one mobile login?
Then you cannot revoke one of them. Each person gets a credential. A shared password is called out, not copied into the turnover as if it were normal.
Does revoke work if the phone is offline?
We test the path the vendor actually supports and we tell you the delay. If a lost phone still opens the door until it next finds a network, you need the backup killed too.
