A pick- and drill-resistant cylinder with a key-control story
High-security cylinders are Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, or another restricted keyway, plus an armored strike when the door needs it. The keyway is explained. Authorized holders are recorded. The strike is installed into structure. Original keys and obvious duplicate attempts are tested so you can feel the difference. Unrestricted duplicates, a sidebar that is not engaged, short screws, and a lost authorization card are the ways the upgrade quietly fails.
Choose it when a hardware-store key is no longer acceptable. A standard rekey is enough if you trust the keyway and only need the pin stacks changed. Bring any existing card. If there is no card, say so at the start.
Restricted keyways, armored strikes, and the card that authorizes a copy
The cylinder, the record of holders, the strike, and the test are the job. A master-key tree for a whole building is the commercial version of this work. UL 437 is the attack reference we cite when the cylinder has it. The key-control card is the copying rule. We do not cut a restricted key for someone who is not on it.
Street doors in DC take pry attacks that an interior Maryland closet never sees. The armored strike and the long screws are part of the same conversation as the fancy key. A restricted cylinder with short strike screws is a locked plug in a door that still splits. We will not sell one without mentioning the other.
Frequent questions
What does the authorization card actually control?
Who may have a key cut. Without it, a restricted blank stays in the drawer. A lost card means we rebuild the record with the holder, not that we cut from memory.
How do you show that a hardware-store copy will not work?
We try a plain duplicate of the cuts, where the keyway allows the demonstration, and we show the sidebar or the interactive pin rejecting it. Where a demo key would itself be a bad idea, we explain the mechanism without creating a working copy.
Is the cylinder enough without the strike?
No, if a kick defeats the frame. The armored strike and screws into the stud are what keep the door and the cylinder in the same conversation.
Can these keys be added to a big master system later?
Only if the keyway and the bitting plan were chosen for that. We do not promise a future master on a cylinder that was pinned as a single key.
